Of
course we have to call our 'star attractions' those that
are in Mevagissey!
Almost
everyone who comes to stay in Mevagissey intend going to
The Eden Project and The Lost Gardens
of Heligan neither of which will need any introduction
and are both a superb day out. There is so much to learn,
irrespective of your present knowledge - or you can just
relax amongst the sights and smells at your leisure. More
details can be found in the day
trips section.
But
it is possible to while away hours and hours in the village,
especially if you are blessed with good weather. You will
of course have noticed that it is still very much an active
fishing port, Clares' husband has continued his families
tradition by fishing here for the last 40 years and their
son is now following on. They have 2 fishing boats in the
harbour and are very proud to be part of the industry and
will be delighted to answer all those questions you will
have after spending time on the harbour.
You
can walk right to the end of each quay, and for those who
need to you can park along the Lighthouse Quay. During the
Summer season boat trips around the bay operate where you
can also try mackerel fishing if you wish, or you can hire
a small self drive motor boat and go and find a secluded
beach.
The
Fowey - Mevagissey passenger ferry
connects these two 'charming and contrasting' harbours and
runs numerous times a day during the summer months to Fowey
from the Lighthouse Quay and is a super day out without
the need to drive and park. You may even be lucky and see
some seabirds, basking sharks or dolphins!
The
museum is a fascinating treasure, showing how the village
once looked when the Pilchard industry was booming. The
Model Railway exhibition is very impressive and not
forgetting the Aquarium
which displays locally caught fish and is in the old lifeboat
house.
For
the more adventurous there are plenty of scuba diving and
snorkelling opportunities, both wrecks and reefs. Sal
and Tamsin are highly trained professionals who can
cater for all your diving requirements in Cornwall, whether
you are a beginner trying it out or a qualified diver in
your own right. You can even experience a historical dive.
If
all that is not enough there are numerous art galleries,
potteries, shops, pubs and restaurants to check out as well
as some lovely beaches nearby and of course not forgetting
the stunning coastal path which runs right past the house.

information can be gained by visiting the Tourist
